Automatic Archive and Delete Procedures in Panopto
Starting June 2025, all Panopto recordings that are Remotely Recorded, older than 6 months and last viewed 6 months will be archived on a monthly basis. Panopto Remote Recorders are used by AV teams at specially at the Georgetown University Law Center (LAW), McDonough School of Business (MSB) and at Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q) for scheduling the automatic recording of classroom lectures and event spaces.
Starting July 2023, all Zoom Cloud recordings in Panopto that were automatically copied into your Panopto account and have not been viewed in over 1 year will be archived in Panopto on a monthly basis. Also, all Gerogetown Zoom users will need to “resubscribe” or “opt in” to service that automatically copies Zoom Cloud recordings into Panopto.
Starting July 2025 all Panopto Remote Recorded recordings in your Panopto archive that are older than 18 months and have not been viewed in 8 months will be deleted.
Starting January 2024 all Zoom Cloud recordings in your Panopto archive that are older than 2 years will be deleted on a monthly basis.
What do I need to do?
- If you do not wish to retain your older Zoom Cloud recordings or Remote Recorded sessions in Panopto then no action is necessary.
- If you wish to prevent your Zoom Cloud recordings and/or Remote Recorded sessions from being archived then you (or your viewers) simply need to watch them in Panopto every 6 months.
- If you want to have your Zoom Cloud recordings automatically copied into Panopto then you need to opt in to the service.
- If you wish to prevent your Zoom Cloud recordings and/or Remote Recorded sessions that have already been archived in Panopto from being deleted, then you (or your viewers) will need to restore them and watch them immediately in Panopto. Note: The process to restore recordings in Panopto can take up to 48 hours, so don’t wait until the last day to restore them.
