UIS Technical Review

UIS provides technical consulting services to GU departments and staff who need technology, product, or service assistance. This is called the UIS Technical Review Process.

Examples of Requests

Please contact UIS if you need to do any of the following: (Note: This is not an exhaustive list.) 

  • Renew a contact for a technology or service. Examples include:
    • Vendor service agreement up for renewal
    • Renew existing software license
  • Change the scope of an existing (third-party) license agreement. Examples include:
    • Integrate software with another product/service.
    • Increase number of software licenses.
    • Increase technical support services, such as printing and database administration, with an existing vendor.
  • Explore the need for a technology solution to address a need or pain point. Examples include:
    • We have a lot of manual processes that take up a lot of our time.
    • We are using multiple spreadsheets that are cumbersome and time consuming.
    • We are using multiple systems and it is difficult to track interactions with students.
  • Need support for developing a budget for research infrastructure with a grant proposal.
    • Applying for/renewing a grant and need some assistance with the technology services needed to support the research.
  • Need technology services and/or infrastructure needs for research.
    • Have been awarded a grant and need UIS to help find the right services and solutions to support my research.

UIS Technical Review Process Overview

Below is an overview of the process for requesting technology consultation services with UIS.

UIS review and initial consultation.UIS will contact you to discuss your request in more detail, gather any additional information if needed, and possibly speak with the vendor.
OutcomeA UIS staff member will contact you directly to share the outcome and give you an opportunity to ask questions and determine any future steps.

What’s the purpose of the UIS Technical Review Process? 
The purpose of this process is to evaluate technology products and services so that we can:

  • Ensure the product or service provides the relevant capabilities needed to support the intended use case.
  • Review any existing solutions GU has to determine if they (any of those solutions) may be suitable for your needs, which could save you time and money.
  • Ensure that the product or service is compatible with our IT standards and other systems.
  • Ensure compliance with GU security standards.
  • Ensure the company complies with GU procurement/supply chain standards.

Can anyone submit a request?

Yes, anyone can submit a request.

How long does the process take?

It depends on the type of request and the scope. Once we have an initial idea of what you are attempting to do, UIS can provide some estimates of time.
