NetID Password Information for New StudentsCongratulations on joining the Georgetown community! The following information should help you get started with GU technology services over the summer before you arrive. NetID PasswordsYour NetID and password are your keys to many of the technology services you will use at Georgetown. The Office of the Registrar will mail your NetID and a temporary password to you after the university receives your deposit and you are officially matriculated. When you receive your letter, follow the instructions to select a password of your own choosing. I haven't received my NetID password letter yet. What should I do?Most students at U.S. mailing addresses should receive NetID password letters 2 to 4 weeks after mailing their deposit. Please wait at least that long to contact us with your photo ID. If you have not received your NetID password letter by June 2, you can come in person or fax a photo ID to UIS. See the instructions below for requesting a password reset by fax. I have received my NetID letter, but it says the password is 'Already Set.' What should I do?The phrase "Already Set" is not a temporary password. It is a phrase to show that you may have already set a password for your account, either through a prior affiliation with the university or by contacting UIS before the letter was printed. Unfortunately, this means you will need to have your password reset if you've forgotten what you set it to previously. Complete password reset request instructions are posted on the NetID services website. I have received my NetID letter, but the password I was given does not work. What should I do?A small number of students receive letters with incorrect temporary passwords. Unfortunately, this means you will need to have your password reset. Complete password reset request instructions are posted on the NetID services website. Can UIS tell me what is my current password or take my reset request over the phone? In order to keep your student records and other accounts secure, UIS and other university staff cannot access or see your current password. If you forget your password or what you believe to be your current password does not work, we can reset it for you. To prevent other people from gaining access to your accounts, we must positively identify you with a photo ID before resetting your password. We cannot accept password requests by phone. Complete password reset request instructions are posted on the NetID services website. Note to ParentsFederal privacy law prohibits Georgetown from resetting a student NetID password at a parent's request. If your child needs to have a password reset, he or she must request it him- or herself.
