How do I prevent recordings from being archived?

Prevent your recordings in Panopto from being regularly archived:

You can prevent your recordings in Panopto from being regularly archived by simply viewing them in Panopto. You (or your viewers) don’t have to watch the whole recording, just a few seconds.

If your recording(s) in Panopto continue to go unwatched throughout the year they will be subject to being archived (again). To prevent this from happening your recording(s) in Panopto will need to be re-watched every 6 months.

Prevent your recordings in Panopto from being deleted:

To prevent your recordings from being deleted from the Panopto archive simply restore and view them in Panopto. The process to restore recordings in Panopto can take up to 48 hours. Be sure to view the recording (just a few seconds) after it’s restored in order to prevent it from being placed back into the archive again.

After you restore a recording(s) from the archive, there will be an automatic hold on re-archiving it for 30 days. So if you forget to watch it right away it won’t automatically be archived again. You have 30 days to watch it before it’s sent back to the Panopto archive.

If you watch it once and it continues to go unwatched throughout the year, it will be placed back into the archive where it could be subject to deletion. To prevent this from happening, your recording(s) need to re-watched every 6 months in Panopto.

Starting July 2025 all Panopto Remote Recorded recordings in your Panopto archive that are older than 18 months and have not been viewed in 8 months will be deleted.

Starting January 2024 all Zoom Cloud recordings in your Panopto archive that are older than 2 years will be deleted on a monthly basis.
