FAQ (Zoom AI Companion)

Zoom AI Companion is expected to be available in January 2025 for meetings hosted by faculty and staff.

What is Zoom AI Companion?
Zoom AI Companion is an AI-based digital assistant that enables you to enhance your productivity and collaboration. With Zoom AI Companion, you can generate a detailed summary of your meeting discussions that includes discussion topics, main points, and action items; get caught up on meeting content you might have missed; and ask questions related to your meeting.

Who can use Zoom AI Companion?
Zoom AI Companion is currently available to all Georgetown faculty and staff to use in Zoom meetings they host. All participants (including students) in a meeting where AI Companion is active can use the features the host has made available. (Note: We anticipate rolling out Zoom AI Companion to student hosts starting spring 2025.)

How do I enable transcripts for my meeting?
The Zoom AI Companion source transcript is available for the meeting host to download. Please see our page about Zoom’s transcript and meeting recording options for more information.

To create a meeting transcript
In addition to AI Companion, Zoom has other options for creating meeting transcripts. Please see our page about Zoom’s transcript and meeting recording options for more information.

How can I view my meeting summary?
The host can view their meeting summary in their Zoom account in the Meeting Summaries page. (Only the host has access to this unless they have shared a summary with specific people or with all meeting attendees automatically in their settings.)

If a meeting summary has been shared with you, you can view the meeting summary from the email you received stating that the meeting summary was shared with you.

How can I view my transcript?
The host can view the transcript of a meeting from the host’s Zoom account in the Recordings & Transcripts page under the Transcripts tab. Only the meeting host ever has access to the transcripts.

How can I view meeting questions?
Meeting questions and answers are only available during the meeting. You can only view the questions you’ve asked—no one else can view your questions, and you cannot view anyone else’s questions.

How accurate are meeting summaries?
Meeting summaries will not be completely accurate. It is strongly recommended that hosts review and, if needed, edit meeting summaries before sharing them.

Will the AI recognize nicknames in the meeting summary?
Not reliably. The best way to ensure the meeting summary attributes your statements and tasks to you if you usually go by a nickname is to change your name in your Zoom Account Profile. You can always edit it during the meeting, especially if you want to present a more formal name. But Zoom AI knows you by your profile name.

How can I use Zoom AI Companion in a teaching setting?
You can refer to the CNDLS (Center for New Designs in Learning and Scholarship) information on how to use Zoom AI Companion as a digital teaching assistant. You can also contact CNDLS at cndls@georgetown.edu.

Can Zoom AI detect pronouns?
This feature is also not reliable. It is best to set your preferred pronouns in your Zoom Account Profile.

What features are available?
At this time, Meeting Summary and In-Meeting Questions are enabled.

Is there a cost for using Zoom AI Companion?
No, there is no cost to use Zoom AI Companion. Zoom AI Companion is included as part of using Zoom from Georgetown’s Zoom account.
