Crowd Strike Restore Instructions

  1. Boot the system into recovery mode. 
  2. Click See Advanced Repair Options
  3. Click Troubleshoot
  4. Click Command prompts
  5. Enter the Bitlocker recovery key if asked.
  6. Type C: then Click Enter
  7. Type CD \Windows\System32\drivers\Crowdstrike Then Enter
  8. Type Del “C-00000291*.sys” Then Enter.
  9. Type exit then Enter.
  10. Click continue, and the system should then be rebooted once
  11. Then log in normally to the system and test.

Dear Members of the Georgetown University Community, 

We are writing to inform you of a system-wide outage for Microsoft Windows related to updates made by Crowdstrike, a cybersecurity platform, which is impacting Georgetown users. We are in touch with Microsoft and Crowdstrike and will monitor the situation as they work to resolve the issue. We are aware that Crowdstrike has identified the issue and deployed a fix.

Symptoms of this outage include blue screen error messages on Microsoft Windows personal computers and servers.  Non-Windows devices are not impacted.

If you are experiencing issues with your Windows device, please do the following::

  • Hilltop Campus: Contact the help desk at help@georgetown.edu or visit the Service Desk  in the Leavey Center.
  • Capitol Campus: Contact the help desk at caphelp@georgetown.edu or visit the Service Desk  in McDonough Hall, Room 152.
  • Qatar Campus: Contact the help desk at guqhelpcenter@georgetown.edu or visit the Service Desk  in the Humanitarium Building on the Lower Ground Floor (Basement), Room LE09, next to the Mailroom.
  • All other locations: Contact the help desk at help@georgetown.edu.

We will post updates on the Announcements section of the UIS website  as we learn more about when this outage may be resolved.
