Full-time faculty and staff are eligible to request a Google Gemini AI Pro license on a first-come, first-served basis. Adjunct faculty and full-time contingent staff may request a Gemini Pro license if there is a business need. UIS will approve requests based on license availability.

Students may opt in to enable Gemini for Education on their GU Google Workspace. This version has lower prompt limits than Gemini AI Pro.

Note: Part-time staff are currently ineligible, but access will be reevaluated in the future.

Getting started with Gemini at Georgetown is a quick, two-part process. Follow these steps to claim your license and start prompting:

Request Your License (Opt-in)

  1. Visit GU360 to claim your Gemini license by opting in. You will be asked to watch a brief introductory video and accept the usage agreement. 
  2. Wait for a license to be assigned. This can take up to 24 hours.
  3. Ensure mandatory GMS training is complete within 30 days of opting in.

Log In and Explore

Once your license is assigned:

  1. Log in to your GU account. Ensure you are signed in to your official Georgetown University Google Apps account, not your personal Gmail.
  2. Visit the portal at gemini.google.com.
  3. Know the ground rules. Take a quick moment to review current policies and guidelines and support and resources.
  4. Ignite your imagination and start prompting!

Yes, NotebookLM is included when you receive your Gemini license and can be accessed directly via your Google Workspace Apps menu.

Yes, obtaining a Gemini license is optional for students, faculty and staff. However, university employees should consult with their managers to determine if Gemini is required for specific department business processes.

No. Gemini cannot autonomously scan your data; it requires a human-initiated prompt to interact with any Google Workspace documents or emails.

The security policies and permissions of Georgetown’s Gemini environment mirror our standard Google Workspace settings. However, please be aware that if you share a document with another user, that individual can choose to use that document in their own Gemini prompts.
