FAQ for UIS Technical Review

  • What’s the purpose of the UIS Technical Review Process? 
  • Can anyone submit a request? Yes, anyone can submit a request.
  • How long does the process take? It depends on the type of request and the scope. Once we have an initial idea of what you are attempting to do, UIS can provide some estimates of time. Various factors affect the length of a Technical Review.
  • I have questions/need assistance. Who can I contact for help? If you need assistance or have questions, contact UIS at help@georgetown.edu.
  • Another group on campus already uses the technology that I am requesting. Do I still need to submit a review request?
  • Is it possible to get an expedited review?  Yes, however, requesters will need to provide supporting evidence and may be asked additional questions should a review need to be expedited.
  • What documentation is needed by UIS to complete a review? Please see the General Documents Requested during Reviews portion of this site for information regarding documentation for technical reviews.
  • What is a HECVAT?

  • Why do I need an accessibility addendum?
  • What is a VPAT?
  • What if the vendor will not sign the accessibility addendum? If the vendor won’t redline the accessibility addendum, or we can’t reach an agreement on the redlines, the purchasing department will need to submit an accessibility exception. The Dean/VP and CIO need to sign the accessibility exception in docusign.
  • Does my accessibility addendum expire? The accessibility addendum (and any exception) only lasts the duration of the contract, so they will need to be renewed along with the contract. The exception is if the addendum is part of a master contract. 
  • Does the HECVAT that I provided for the last contract with my vendor still work for this current request? Please be prepared to provide an updated HECVAT from the vendor for new reviews. Requesters can consult with their Account Manager regarding the need for a new or updated HECVAT.
  • How often do I need something reviewed?
  • What is Georgetown’s AI use policy? Please see the GU AI Guidlines site for more information regarding AI usage and policies
  • What if I am just asking for a renewal of a contract? Do I still need to go through the review process? Is the process different from a new contract/vendor review? Yes, a renewal of a contract will still need to go through the review process
  • Is an older HECVAT acceptable, and why is the most recent version required? UIS Technical Reviews require the most current version of the HECVAT
