FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

Yes, NotebookLM is included when you receive a Gemini license and can be accessed via Google Workspace Apps
What security measures are in place when using Gemini?
Google has ensured privacy and security within the standards set by University Information Services (UIS), as part of the university’s enterprise agreement with Google. Unlike consumer versions of AI tools, Georgetown’s enterprise instance of Gemini ensures that user chats and data are not used to train or improve the underlying models.
Are there any specific terms of use we must follow with Gemini?
Georgetown has elaborated on its Acceptable Use policy in the “Gemini Acceptable Use for Faculty and Staff” document and the “Gemini Acceptable Use for Students” document.
Is claiming a Gemini license optional?
Claiming a Gemini license is generally optional for students, faculty & staff. Employees should speak to their manager to determine if they will need Gemini for specific business processes.
Will there be training available to learn how to use Gemini?
Yes, there will be a broad-based training program provided by Google, UIS, and campus partners. Information on these training resources will be shared in the coming weeks with the university community
Can Gemini autonomously access my Google Workspace documents and emails?
No, Gemini requires a human produced prompt to access any Google Workspace documents or emails. The access policies and permissions of Georgetown’s Gemini licenses are consistent with Georgetown’s Google Workspace environment. Therefore, you have the ability to share documents and content with people. However, community members should be cognizant that if they share a document with someone else, they no longer have control over whether that person uses the document in Gemini.
