Use Cases with Gemini

Below are some examples of potential uses of Gemini for our student, faculty and staff populations. UIS will routinely continue to publish relevant use cases for the community. 

For Students

  • Study Aids: Generating study guides, summarizing course readings, and practicing coding.
  • Brainstorming: Developing paper topics or research questions.
  • Language Practice: Using it for conversational practice in a second language.

Instructors may provide policies governing the use of AI within their courses.

For Faculty

  • Research: Generating literature reviews, refining hypotheses, or creating infographics
  • Teaching: Creating sample questions, designing lecture outlines, or developing rubrics.
  • Efficiency: Summarizing emails or drafting routine communications.

For Staff

  • Administrative Tasks: Drafting meeting minutes, summarizing long documents, or creating first drafts of official communications.
  • Data Analysis: Using it to interpret and summarize data (if permitted by data handling policy, funding source, or data source).

What Gemini Does NOT Do:

  • Access content that you don’t have permission to access
  • Use your Georgetown University chats to improve models
  • Share your prompt or responses with other organizations

What Gemini DOES:

  • Using your prompt, Gemini will access relevant Google Workspace content that you have permission to access
  • Generate responses based on your prompt, relevant Google Workspace content, and webpage context
  • Apply existing data protection controls automatically when you insert Gemini generated response into your email/document
