Alumni IT Services

Welcome to the Georgetown University Alumni IT Services overview.  This document provides essential information regarding the continuation and changes to your IT services as an alumnus.  Please review the details carefully, especially concerning data retention and transfer, to ensure a smooth transition and continued access to your relevant accounts and information.

Alumni who were also employees or faculty at Georgetown University (GU) must separate their student data from their employment data before transferring it to a personal repository.  This applies to all Google Workspace products (including email, Google Drive, and Photos) and Box. If the separation of data is not feasible due to mixed GU data on their drives, alumni will be not be allowed to transfer data to a personal account.

IT Services You Will Retain

  • Google Email (Gmail)
As a member of Georgetown’s alumni community, you will have continued access to your Georgetown NetID Gmail account. If you have more than 15GB worth of email and attachments currently stored in your Georgetown Gmail account, please transfer your files to a personal account as soon as possible.
  • Canvas
Most Georgetown alumni will maintain their access to Canvas for twenty-one (21) years after graduation. As alumni you will still use your NetID and NetID Password to access Canvas. Access to specific courses and content in Canvas might be modified, blocked, or completely removed by the instructor. Classes that were in Blackboard are no longer available.

Note: SCS students in non-credit certificate programs should consult the Non-Credit Student Handbook for details on how long they will be able to access Canvas after completing their program.
  • MyAccess
Any graduates with a valid NetID (post-1980) will have continued access to MyAccess. (Note: Transcripts may be requested via the “Parchment” service in MyAccess, or directly from Parchment itself.)
