Phone Service Outage-July 6, 2023 (UPDATE)

UPDATE (7/7/23, 7:45AM):

Windstream, the university’s phone service carrier, reports that all repairs have been completed and all service has been restored. If you continue to experience issues with phone service, please contact help@georgetown.edu.

UPDATE (7/6/23, 6PM):

UIS has been working with Windstream, our phone service carrier, to troubleshoot the issue. Windstream has discovered the root cause, which appears to be cut fiber in the Sterling and Herndon, VA, areas affecting multiple customers. We apologize for any inconvenience this may be causing. We will be working with Windstream through the evening to resolve this issue and will provide an update in the morning.

As a reminder, we are experiencing a campus-wide telephone service outage for all inbound calls on our CISCO/Avaya systems. Outbound calls from campus or interdepartmental calls within Georgetown University are not affected.

For any emergencies, please call the Georgetown University Police Department (GUPD) at 202-384-3358 or 202-295-9019.

While we work to rectify this outage, you can email critical departments across campus as needed:

Zoom communications are unaffected by this outage.

UIS is investigating the cause of the outage and will provide an update on when phone service can be restored. Updates will be posted on the UIS webpage.
