Ed Discussion

Ed Discussion provides a threaded discussion platform in Canvas where instructors and students can interact asynchronously by posting comments, ask questions, provide feedback, upload files, and more. Students and instructors can. Instructors can draw attention to good replies and endorse posts that have correct answers to questions. You might use this to facilitate discussions, engage students, and track student participation.

We recommend instructors disable the Canvas Discussions tool from the course menu when using Ed Discussions.

FeedbackFruits

FeedbackFruits is only available for McDonough School of Business Canvas courses.

Offers a suite of tools to help faculty create engaging and stimulating active learning courses. For example, they offer tools for assessment and peer feedback, collaborative learning and social annotations, and tools for engagement and interaction.

Google Assignments

Enabled in Canvas: Assignments, Modules, Rich Content Editor

Bring the collaborative tools of Google Apps to your Canvas course through the Google Assignments integration in Canvas. Instructors can use Google Assignments to embed content from Google Drive into their course and create, distribute, collect, analyze and grade student work. Both instructors and students can use Google Assignments to create and share Google docs, sheets, slides, and more.

Hypothes.is

Enabled in Canvas: Assignments, Modules

Hypothes.is is a collaborative annotation tool that can be integrated in a Canvas assignment, allowing students to annotate an external webpage or PDF, as well as see and comment on each other’s annotation. The instructor can also participate, and access individual student annotations through SpeedGrader.

Lucid

Enabled in Canvas: Course Menu, Rich Content Editor

Lucid for Education is a suite of visual applications in Canvas consisting of LucidChart and LucidSpark, which are apps for org charts, flow charts, and other charts. Lucid combines the creative power of diagramming and design to help students understand their own thinking, foster creativity, and encourage collaboration.

Perusall

Enabled in Canvas: Course Menu

Perusall is integrated in Canvas and allows students and Instructors to start conversations and annotate over online textbooks, articles, PDFs, and external webpage. Instructors can check whether students are reading papers without having to give them quizzes. Perusall can incorporate etextbooks, online articles, and PDFs, which can then be marked up in a myriad ways. Students can automatically receive grades on their annotations.

Piazza

Enabled in Canvas: Course Menu, Assignments, Modules

Piazza provides an online class forum that’s integrated in Canvas for students to hold discussions and pose questions to their peers, instructors, and TAs. Instructors are able to moderate the discussion, along with endorsing accurate answers.

VoiceThread

Enabled in Canvas: Assignments, Modules, Rich Content Editor

VoiceThread is an online discussion, assignment and presentation tool that can be integrated in Canvas. Instructors and students can use VoiceThread to create and share dynamic asynchronous conversations recording their computer’s audio and video, typing, and drawing on the screen. Check out the CNDLS page on VoiceThread for more information and to schedule a consultation.

Yellowdig

Yellowdig is a discussion platform integrated in Canvas that allows students and instructors to communicate and collaborate about class content and share a broad array of learning resources (e.g., videos, news articles, blogs and more).

Zoom Conferencing

Enabled in: Course Menu

Zoom is a web conferencing tool that provides a platform to conduct live online conferences, presentations, lectures, meetings and group chats. Use Zoom on your desktop or laptop computer (Windows and Mac), mobile device (iOS and Android), or other conferencing systems such as Polycom (H.323), to connect to anyone internal or external to Georgetown.

Faculty can use the Zoom Conferencing tool in their Canvas courses to schedule meetings with students and hold online office hours. Students (and faculty too) can use Zoom outside of Canvas to create and host their own meetings.
