Georgetown faculty, staff, and students require secure computer systems and networks to accomplish the University’s mission of teaching, research, and service.

The University Information Security Office (UISO) is committed to protecting the security, confidentiality, integrity, and availability of Georgetown’s systems, networks, people, and data through the following:

  • Vulnerability management. Monitoring the network for threats and malware.
  • Phishing monitoring and prevention. Protecting the University mail system from credential theft and other scams.
  • Technology policies. Outlining the proven security frameworks that govern our technology policies and behaviors.

For example, the Computer Systems Acceptable Use Policy outlines your responsibilities regarding the use of university IT resources, your obligations on appropriate use of your account, and the proper use of confidential and copyrighted information.
  • Information security awareness and training. Providing security best practices, policy updates, and required role-based training courses.

We offer many applications to help you proactively protect your data and personal information, mobile devices, your computer, and your online identity. Among the applications we offer include Microsoft Defender (anti-virus program for Windows computers, available for free in the online software Webstore), Duo (two-factor authentication), LastPass (password manager), and GlobalProtect VPN (secure access to the Georgetown network).
