Transition to Zoom Phone

Dear Colleagues,

I am excited to announce that Georgetown University is implementing a new “Voice over Internet Protocol” (VoIP) phone system, Zoom Phone, which will eventually replace the current Cisco/Avaya phone system. Zoom Phone was selected after a successful pilot with faculty and staff participants from across the university.

You can use Zoom Phone through the Georgetown Zoom application on your smartphone and software on your computer, eliminating the need for a stand-alone phone on your desk. Zoom Phone also provides the option to make and receive phone calls, and access voicemail, from anywhere using your Georgetown phone number without having to use your personal cell phone number.

Verifying Your Phone Number
To facilitate the transition to Zoom Phone by the end of the calendar year, we invite all full-time faculty and staff to claim their existing Georgetown phone number (202-687-xxxx or 202-784-xxxx), request new service or share specific requirements by using the claim form. Those who complete the claim form will receive an email notification later this summer about how to set up your Zoom Phone account. 

If you have a department administrator, they may submit a claim on your behalf. If you would like to organize a claim for a group of users or for a department, please contact help@georgetown.edu.

Setting Up Your Zoom Phone Account
Once you receive the email notification about your Zoom Phone account, please log into your Georgetown Zoom account to set up and start using Zoom Phone. To recycle your existing desk phone, please take it to the e-waste drop off location at the Regents Hall loading dock.

Conference Lines and Fax Service
If your department has a conference room phone currently, please fill out this claim form so that we may assess the current configuration and ensure migration to Zoom.

Zoom Phone will not support faxing. If you or your department require fax service, please fill out the claim form or contact help@georgetown.edu with the location and phone number of the fax machine you need to remain operational as soon as possible.
