Computer Replacement Program
The university offers a computer replacement program for participating departments, allowing for regular updates of university-funded desktop and laptop computers.
Main Campus Computer Replacement Program (MCCRP)
The MCCRP is currently on a temporary pause until June 2026. This program is designed to provide faculty and staff with the necessary technological tools. A reevaluation of the program, based on our financial standing, will be conducted in June 2026.
Until June 2026, the MCCRP will continue to provide funding for:
- New computers for faculty and staff hired into eligible new positions.
- Replacement computers for users whose existing machines have been officially determined by University Information Services (UIS) to have failed and are no longer serviceable.
To address immediate, time-sensitive needs, we will maintain a limited inventory of Mac and Windows computers. These will be used for emergency replacements of broken machines or as loaners.
Other Campuses (Medical Center, Capitol Campus, University Service)
For computer purchase requests at these locations, please work directly with your local IT service provider or Technology Account Manager. If you need assistance, contact the UIS Service Center.

Why Participate in the Computer Replacement Program?
By being on a regular computer replacement cycle, you will be keeping up with the latest technology in computers. Your computer will be under a 4-year warranty and will be supported by UIS, resulting in effective support for the lowest cost. Also, it enables users to have the latest computer technology and the most recent operating systems and application versions.
Replacement Cycle Period
The recommended replacement period of a computer would be 4 years. The reason for this is that we purchase computers with a 4 year warranty. If a person keeps a computer beyond the 4 years, most computers start becoming unreliable and the maintenance costs become expensive.

Price
Since we encourage departments to participate in a Replacement Cycle we also recommend that, unless it is absolutely necessary, you do not invest a great deal of extra money into a new system. We have put together standard computer models and configurations that easily fit most user needs. It is best to plan on purchasing a standard computer every 4 years than to spend a great deal of money on a single computer that may or may not last beyond 4 or 5 years.
Disposal
An important part of the computer replacement process is the correct disposal of the old computer. If you have your computer replaced through the Replacement Cycle Program, you can be assured that all data will be removed from your old computer’s hard drive and that the computer will be disposed of properly.
