Checking for Software Updates

Duo Mobile App

To install the latest version of the Duo Mobile app, perform the following steps:

  1. Open the Duo Mobile app on your device.
  2. Tap on the menu icon (three horizontal lines at the top right-hand corner of your screen).
  3. Tap Security Checkup. The app will perform a diagnosis of your device. If you need to update the app, this will be indicated on your screen.
  4. Tap on the link to go to the App Store.
  5. From the Duo Mobile app screen, tap Update. In a few moments, the app will be updated.

Mobile Device Operating Systems

iOS

Notes:

  • The update [both the download and install] may take some time to complete.
  • Be sure your device is connected to WiFi and plugged in to a power source.
  • Your device may restart several times during the update. This is normal.
  1. Tap the Settings icon.
  2. From the Settings screen, tap General.
  3. From the General screen, tap Software Update. If a software update is available, tap on the link Download and Install. Follow the prompts to complete the update.
Android

(Note:  These steps may vary depending on your device and version of Android. Check with your device manufacturer’s documentation for correct steps.)

  1. Tap on Apps.
  2. Tap on Settings (gear-shaped icon).
  3. In the ‘Settings’ screen, scroll until you see the System (or System updates) section.
  4. In the System or System updates section, tap About phone, About device, or similar item (depending on your version of Android).
  5. In the next screen, tap Software updates (could also be System updates). If an update is available, follow the prompts to install the update.

Computer Operating Systems

Mac OS
  1. Click on the apple icon, and then select About This Mac.
  2. In the pop-up window, click on the Software Update button. The App Store will open and will display any updates that are available. You can install updates one at a time or all at once (make sure to include any operating system updates). To install all available updates, click Update All.
Microsoft Windows
  1. Click on the Start (Windows) menu and then select Settings.
  2. From the ‘Windows Settings’ screen, click on Update & Security.
  3. In the next screen, click on Windows Update. In the ‘Windows Update’ section of the screen, click on Check for updates. Windows then checks for any updates, and will begin installing any updates that are available; any updates Windows installs will have a corresponding Status message. (Note:  Some updates might require you to restart your computer.)

Web Browsers

Chrome
  1. In Chrome, click on Chrome at the top left-hand corner of your screen, and then select About Google Chrome. A pop-up window will be displayed showing a message that Chrome is checking for updates.
  2. If an update is available, follow the prompts to install the update.
Firefox
  1. In Firefox, click on Firefox at the top left-hand corner of your screen, and then select About Firefox.
  2. If an update is available, follow the prompts to install the update.
Safari

Any available updates for Safari will be included in Mac OS updates. Follow the steps in the Mac OS section above to check for Safari updates.

Microsoft Edge

Note Updates for Microsoft Edge are typically delivered through Windows updates.

To check Windows updates (to see if there are any updates available for MS Edge), perform the following: (Note:  Some updates might require you to restart your computer.)

  1. Click Settings from the Windows menu.
  2. From the ‘Windows Settings’ window, click Update & Security.
  3. Click Check for updates, if Windows does not automatically start checking (you’ll see the message Checking for updates if it starts the process). Windows will display a list of current available updates. If Windows starts installing the updates, you will see a Status message for that update.
