Global Chip and Supply Chain Issues Will Delay Delivery of Many GU Computer Purchases

Posted in UIS News & Announcements  |  Tagged , , , , , ,

A worldwide chip shortage and other supply chain issues are delaying delivery of many Georgetown University computer purchases, such as those ordered from the Georgetown computer replacement program.

All of the University’s preferred technology vendors have notified UIS of extended lead times. Expect current wait times of up to 20 weeks for deliveries on computers and peripheral equipment. However, as global supply chains are still stabilizing, buyers can expect extended lead times and volatile pricing on many other items and materials.

You may also expect delays and shortages if you’re purchasing a computer or mobile device for yourself.

A major reason for the chip supply shortage is increased demand over the past year for computers, mobile devices, TVs, game consoles, and appliances.

Procurement and University Information Services (UIS) urge employees and supervisors engaged in hiring to plan purchases as far ahead as possible. UIS will also continue to place orders with departments eligible for new computers via the replacement program. However, please note that any orders placed at this time are subject to the above mentioned delays.

If you have any questions regarding delays on purchases of university-managed devices or equipment, please contact computerpurchasehelp@georgetown.edu. For questions concerning personal (non-departmental) purchases, please contact the Georgetown Service Center by going to help.georgetown.edu
