WiFi and Network Upgrade

  • What should people expect when the transition comes to their building?

    Prior to the new WiFi system installation, cable technicians will begin to install the new WiFi radios and cables on the ceilings but no outages will result of this work. On cut-over day, the new WiFi system will be turned on.  You can expect network disruptions throughout the morning on cut-over day for both the wired and wireless network in the building. You will be notified in advance of any cabling work and again about the cut-over day which enables the new WiFi system.
     

  • How should people prepare ahead of time?

    Please notify UIS of any network issues once the cut over is complete. You may want to work from home on cut over day if possible if you depend on WiFi or network access.
     

  • What should people look for afterwards?

    Check to make sure you workstation and mobile devices are able to connect to the wifi system. If your workstation fails to re-connect to the network once the cut-over work is complete, you may need to reboot your computer. Contact UIS if a reboot doesn't resolve the problem.
     

  • Will this impact SaxaNet/GuestNet?

    All WiFi services will be temporarily disrupted on cut-over day.  UIS will notify you in the event any additional outages are needed for your work area.
     

  • Who do I contact if I am concerned about the date my building is scheduled?

    Contact the UIS Service Desk or your account manager if the building cut-over date could impact an important event.
     

  • My device stopped working after my building was cut over, what should I do?

    UIS recommends you reboot your computer or mobile device first and if that fails to resolve the issue, contact the UIS Service Desk
     

  • I have a data jack that I only use occasionally - will that continue working?

    UIS recommends you reboot your computer or mobile device first and if that fails to resolve the issue, contact the UIS Service Desk with the jack number, room and building name.
     

  • Will this affect my phone?

    Some buildings have Cisco VoIP phones which will be impacted during the cut over as they use the network for service. Check your e-mail for notification on your particular building or contact UIS for more information.
     

  • Will this affect my fax machine?

    Some buildings have VoIP FAX lines which will be impacted during the cut over as they use the network for service. Check your e-mail for notification on your particular building or contact UIS for more information
