Emergency Phone Outage on Friday, January 5

Dear Members of the Georgetown University Community,

We are writing to inform you of two upcoming phone outages on Friday, January 5. 

Phone Outage #1: Friday, Jan. 5, 5 – 6 a.m.

From 5 to 6 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 5, there will be an emergency telephone service outage impacting several high-priority phone numbers on our Cisco/Avaya systems. During this one-hour outage, all inbound calls on these numbers will not go through. Interdepartmental calls within Georgetown will not be impacted. Phones at the Law Center and GU-Q will not be impacted. Zoom communications will not be affected by this outage. 

If there is an emergency on campus or you otherwise need to reach the Georgetown University Police Department (GUPD) from 5 – 6 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 5, please call (202) 295-9019 and (202) 384-3358. Alternatively, you may contact GUPD through the mobile safety app LiveSafe (new window).

You also can email critical departments across campus as needed:

Phone Outage #2: 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5 through 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6

Beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 5, and ending at approximately 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 6, there will be an emergency campus-wide telephone service outage impacting all Georgetown phone numbers on our Cisco/Avaya systems. During the outage, all inbound calls on these numbers will not go through. Interdepartmental calls within Georgetown will not be impacted. The outage impact for any single phone number should be about 1 hour. 

GUPD’s phone number will not be impacted by this outage. You will still be able to reach GUPD at (202) 687-4343. 

Phones at the Law Center and GU-Q will not be impacted. Zoom communications will not be affected by this outage.
