File transfer and management (FTP, Telnet, and SSH)

File Transfer Protocol (FTP) tools are used to copy files between desktop computers and Web servers and to manage files and directories on Web servers. Where Telnet access is available, Telnet tools can be used to manage files and directories and to alter file and directory ownership and rights. SSH is a standard for making FTP and Telnet access to Web servers more secure; SSH tools are available for some GU Web servers.
