Managing course syllabi

One function of the Explore web site is to make course syllabi available to students for their use in comparing and selecting courses.

If you are a faculty member, you can add your course syllabi to your faculty profile. A "syllabus" in Explore can consist of a simple text description, a word processing document you've prepared, and/or a link to an existing web site about your course. To work on syllabi:

  1. Log in to update your faculty profile.
  2. Select the Syllabi tab.
  3. Select the option to "add information for a course."
  4. Follow the instructions to select a course and add information for it.
  5. To modify or remove an existing syllabus, go to the Syllabi tab in your faculty profile and select the name of a syllabus.
  6. Need some ideas on what to include in your syllabus?

As a faculty member you can also choose to designate another person, such as a teaching assistant or department administrator, to maintain your faculty profile, including course syllabi.

If you are a department administrator who is asked to publish course syllabi for a faculty member, you can ask the faculty member to delegate to you the ability to update their faculty profile. If you are tasked with publishing syllabi for a number of faculty in your department, you can obtain an administrative account that will enable you to easily publish as many syllabi as needed. With this account you can:

  1. Log in to the Explore administration site.
  2. Select the option to "Manage syllabi".
  3. Select the option to "add information for a course".
  4. Follow the instructions to select a course and add information for it.
  5. In the final section titled "If you are adding a syllabus for someone else," please be sure to provide the NetID of the person for whom you are adding the syllabus. If the professor has no NetID, use your own NetID and come back later to put in their NetID once they have one. If you don't know a user's NetID, consult the online directory.
  6. To modify or remove an existing syllabus, select "Manage syllabi," choose a department from the drop down list, and select the name of a syllabus.
