You may wish to prevent off-campus individuals from viewing your direct phone number when you make a phone call. This can be done on a per-call basis by dialing "195" before placing your call. The person you are calling will see a "blocked call" or "private" message on their caller ID device. The actual message that they see will depend on the telephone company that they are using.
Outgoing number blocking is not available for on-campus calls. |

Lift the handset of your telephone or press the speaker button. |

| Example: William Anderson wishes to call Robert Boyajian. William has a campus phone and Robert, who is off-campus, has a caller ID device. To prevent Robert from seeing William's direct campus number, William will dial 195+9+555-1212. |

- Lift the handset of your telephone or press the speaker button.

- When you hear a dial tone, press 195.
|

- The dial tone will continue. Press 9 and then press 1 and then enter the number you wish to call, including the area code.

| Example: William Anderson wishes to call Devlan O'Connor. William has a campus phone and Devlan, who lives in Honolulu, has a caller ID device. To prevent Devlan from seeing William's direct campus number, William will dial 195+9+1+555-555-1212. |

| I would like to program a speed-dial button |

Your phone must have the speed-dial function activated before you can assign speed-dial numbers to the buttons on your phone. If you are unsure whether you have speed-dial activated, please call the Customer Service line at 202-687-4800. |

- Lift the handset of your telephone or press the speaker button.
|
|
- When you hear a dial tone, press *0 (star + zero).
|
|
- Press the grey button you wish to assign a number to. Its green light will remain solid.
|
|
- Enter the number you wish to assign. If you wish to make 195 a speed number, enter 195.
|
|
- Press the grey button again. You will hear a short confirmation tone. Hang up the phone.

Example: William Anderson wishes to assign 195 to one of his speed-dial buttons. He calls customer service at 7-4800 to confirm that he has speed-dial activated. When speed dial has been activated, he lifts the handset on his phone and presses *+0. He then presses the grey button he wants to assign 195 to. He enters 195. He presses the grey button again. After he hears the confirmation tone, he hangs up the phone.
When William wishes to dial an off-campus call and have his direct campus number blocked, he presses the assigned grey button and then dials the number as usual. |
