Frequently Asked Questions

Who are Sponsored University Associates?
Sponsored University Associates (SUAs) are individuals who are "lightly affiliated" with Georgetown University. They engage with GU in non-academic roles, and do not function as employees of the university.  Vendor representatives, contractors, and volunteers are examples of Sponsored University Associates.

How do I add a new  Sponsored Associate to the SUA system?
The process of adding a new Sponsored University Associate is fairly straightforward. An Online Request Submission form is available on the NetID Web site, which the authorized submitter will complete and submit online.  The NetID Office will process the forms, and will be available to assist in the process and answer any questions.

See the SUA Process Chart for a graphical interpretation of how to add SUAs to the new SUA system.

View the SUA Processing Procedures presentation for more information about how to add a sponsored associate to the SUA system.

Can everyone add new Sponsored Associates to the SUA system?
No, only authorized submitters may add new Sponsored University Associates.

What's the new identity verification process?
Each Associate must provide verification of identity to the sponsoring department, in the form of a government issued photo ID from the list of valid documents.
The authorized individual in the department, known as the Attester, reviews the documents, and records the information in the SUA system. Only authorized individuals may attest to identity.

How long can an Associate be active without review?
Associate status is granted for a maximum of one year at a time.  It can be renewed an indefinite number of times.

What services do Sponsored University Associates receive?
Associates receive a  NetID and a GUID automatically, and are eligible for e-mail routing.  For additional services available on request, see the Available Services for SUAs Web page.

Who can I contact for help or support?
Questions can be directed to the NetID team, netid@georgetown.edu, 202-687-2999.
