Summer Residents: Hoyanet Telephone and Cable Television Services

University Information Services (UIS) provides local telephone, voice mail, and cable television services to residence halls and apartment complexes.  The following service, rate, and sign-up information applies to summer residents.

During summer 2008, UIS will be completing maintenance and upgrade work on the cable television system.  Between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm Monday-Friday, cable subscribers may notice intermittent disruptions to service.  Please watch the UIS home page for information about specific periods of disruption.

Summer Services

  • Local Telephone Service: On-campus, local (Washington DC area), and toll-free dialing.  Only one phone number is available for each residence.  Residence hall rooms and suites have one active phone jack in each bedroom.  Apartment residences have one active phone jack in each bedroom and the common area.  You must provide your own telephone.
    • To call an on-campus number, just dial the last 5 digits (e.g. the UIS Student Helpdesk is 7-4577)
    • To call a local or toll-free off-campus number, you need to access an outside line
      • Dial 9 to access an outside line
      • Dial the complete local or toll-free number you want to call
  • Long Distance Telephone Service: Long distance service is not provided during the summer.  You can make long distance calls using pre-paid or other calling cards.
    • If you are also an academic-year Georgetown student, you can use your PAETEC account as a calling card:
      • Dial 9-1-800-466-1116
      • Enter GU's location code, 3360
      • Enter your Personal Billing Number (PBN)
      • Dial the number you want to call
  • Voice Mail: Requires an active local telephone service line in your residence. One voice mailbox can be shared among all residents, or personal voice mailboxes can be assigned to individual residents.
  • Cable Television: 70 channels including local networks, international satellite networks, and premium channels.  See the online channel guide for a complete list.
