NetID and E-mail Account Information for Recent Alumni

Timing of Account Closures for Alumni

Various technology services accounts for alumni are closed each year after the end of the spring semester.  Use the information below to save information to a local computer before your accounts are closed.  UIS cannot retreive messages or files from accounts after they have been closed.  This year's closure dates are:

E-mail Accounts

Web Development Accounts

  • Web servers (www7, etc.): July 18, 2008

Other Accounts

  • Blackboard: May 13, 2008
  • GUCalendar: December 9, 2008
  • GUExpress dial-up access: see below
  • UIS computer labs: see below

E-mail Services

Step 1: Set Your E-mail Forwarding

E-mail forwarding for life is available to all alumni through HoyasOnline. For more information, please visit the HoyasOnline Web site. Please note that you do not need to register to use HoyasOnline if you already know your NetID and password. Simply use them to log in.

To set-up e-mail forwarding, you will need to have a non-Georgetown e-mail account, such as one from your ISP, new school, employer, or a free e-mail provider. GUMail accounts for graduates of May 2008 and earlier will close beginning December 9, 2008. You should set up your e-mail forwarding as soon as possible to ensure you do not miss any important messages.

Step 2: Save Your Mail

Step 3: Set Your NetID Hint Question

If you forget your NetID password you can reset your password in HoyasOnline by successfully answering a hint question.  Set your hint question in Student Access+ or by registering with the HoyasOnline alumni Web site

Caution: If you ever reset your NetID password using the hint question, you will temporarily lose access to services other than the HoyasOnline website.  This includes Student Access+ and e-mail forwarding changes.  See the NetID Office's FAQs for instructions on upgrading your "level of assurance" and restoring access to other services.

Web Development

Web pages left on the new web development servers are not accessible after your account has been terminated. If you maintain Web files for a Georgetown organization or department, please be sure to transfer the files to a new owner before you leave. Web development accounts for graduates of May 2008 and earlier will close beginning July 18, 2008.

To save any files you may have stored on these systems, login to your account with a file-transfer client and save the files to your personal computer.

Other Accounts

Other accounts will also be closed.  See details below.

Blackboard

Access to your Blackboard account will be deactivated on the evening of Tuesday, May 13, 2008.  If you need any documents from any of your courses on Blackboard, please log in before 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 13 to retrieve them.

GUCalendar

If you used the GUCalendar service, your account will be deactivated and deleted beginning December 9, 2008.

GUExpress Remote Access

Remote access through GUExpress is only available to current students, faculty, and staff. Accounts will be closed beginning May 30, 2008. See Finding an ISP for assistance finding an Internet Service Provider (ISP).

Computer Labs

UIS computer labs are reserved for current students. After graduation or leaving the university, you will no longer be able to access UIS computer labs.  Accounts will be closed beginning May 30, 2008.
