Note: You must log in to Windows XP with a Computer Administrator account to make backups and restore files. (If you need more information on Computer Administrator accounts, please see Creating Windows User Accounts for more information.)
- To Open the Microsoft Backup Utility:
Click the Windows Start button. A menu will appear.
Click Programs. Another menu will appear.
Click Accessories. Another menu will appear.
Click System Tools. Another menu will appear.
Click Backup.

- The Backup or Restore Wizard will open. Click Advanced Mode to begin.

- Click on the icon for Restore Wizard.

- Choose the backup file that you would like to restore from. (Use the Browse button to find the file if the desired backup file does not automatically appear.)
- Click in the boxes to the left of the items you would like to restore (a blue checkmark will appear). Click Next.

- If you would like to restore the files to their original location (you had not moved them since you last performed a backup) and you do not want to overwrite any files that already exist, click Finish and proceed to step 14.
Otherwise, Click Advanced and proceed to step 7. |

- In the Where to restore window, choose Original Location if you had not moved your original files since your last backup. Otherwise, specify the Alternate Location where your files had been moved or designate a Single Folder for your restored files.
- Click Next.

- In the How to restore window, specify what you would like the computer to do if some of the backup files that you are restoring already exist on your computer.
- Click Next.

- In the Advanced Restore Options window, click on the check boxes to select or de-select additional options (all are selected by default, and if you are unsure of a specific option, it is best to leave it selected).
- Click Next.

- After you have specified all advanced restore options, click Finish.

- You will be alerted when Restore is complete. Click on Close to end Restore and close the Microsoft Backup Utility.
Alternately, Click on Report to view details of the restore process. |

- If your backed up files have been successfully restored, they will be found in their original location or the alternate new location that you specified.
