HOW TO USE WINDOWS XP: LOGGING IN

Unlike older versions of Windows, Windows XP Professional doesn't allow you to skip logging in to the computer. This means that you'll need a Windows XP user account (a user name and password). Your Windows XP user name will be the same as your Novell user name.

If you are faculty or staff member, you will need to coordinate your Windows XP user account with your Novell user account. (Students are not eligible for Novell user accounts.)

I was in my office when my new Windows XP computer was installed and set up.

  1. When you turn on or restart your computer, the first thing you will see is the Novell Netware Login Window. Type your Novell Username and Novell Password, then click the OK button.

  1. If you are the only person using your computer, Windows XP will start.

If more than one person has a Windows XP user account on your computer, you may receive the Windows XP Login window. Type your NetID in the Name field. Type your Novell Password in the Password field. Click to place a check mark in the box next to Change your Windows XP password.... Click the OK button. Windows XP will start.

Synchronize your Windows XP password with your Novell password.

  1. From now on, your Novell and Windows XP logins will be synchronized. (Logging in to Novell will also log you in to your Windows XP user account.)

If you receive an error message when trying to log in to Windows XP, you may not have a Windows XP user account on that computer. Contact your Help Desk to get a Windows XP user account.
