HOW TO USE WINDOWS XP: LOCKING YOUR COMPUTER

If you're working on a document and have to leave your computer for a little while, you can protect your work by locking the computer. A locked computer will hide open programs and documents, and will only allow the person who locked it to unlock it again. To unlock the computer, you'll need the user name and password of the account that was in use when the computer was locked.

Locking Your Computer

  1. Press the Ctrl, Alt, and Delete keys on your keyboard all at the same time. The Novell NetWare Security window will appear.

  2. Click on the Lock Workstation button. A message will appear telling you that the computer is locked.

All of your work will be kept open, but no one will be able to use the computer without your user name and password.

Unlocking Your Computer

  1. Press the Ctrl, Alt, and Delete keys on your keyboard all at the same time. The Novell NetWare Security window will appear.

  2. Next to Password, type the password you used to log on to the computer (if you have more than one user account, you must type the password for the account you were using at the time you locked the computer).

  3. Click the OK button.

  4. The computer is now unlocked and you can resume your work.
