Before you install any files, you must have an up-to-date anti-virus program installed on your computer. Make sure this program is set to scan files as you download them. |
Sometimes, files are compressed (or zipped) to make them easier to transport. If you are downloading a zipped file, you will need special software to unzip it. See the UIS Software Database to install the WinZip program on your computer.
- Download the zipped file the same way you usually download files (see Downloading Software for instructions on downloading files).
- If you've installed WinZip on your computer, any zipped files will appear with a distinctive "clamp" icon.
- Find the "clamp icon" file you've just downloaded and Double Click on it.

This will bring up the WinZip Wizard.
- Click on the Next button.

 |
- If you're asked if you want to add your desktop to your Favorite Zip Folder, Click on the No button.
|
 |
- Select the folder you want to unzip your files into (or accept the default location).
- Then Click on the Unzip Now button.

This will unzip all the files. Find the installation file (it will be an .exe file, sometimes called setup.exe) in the folder you just upzipped your files into. When you've found the .exe file, Double Click on it. In most cases, an installation program (wizard) will start up and guide you through installing the software.
