HOW TO USE WINDOWS 95 AND 98: DOWNLOADING SOFTWARE

Note: Although, originally written for Windows 95, these instructions will work with all Windows operating sytems (95 -- XP).  Some screens and icons may look slightly different in the different operating systems, but the instructions will remain the same.

Before you install any files, you must have an up-to-date anti-virus program installed on your computer. Make sure this program is set to scan files as you download them.

  1. You're going to go to a Web site and Click on a link to download a file (it will usually be an .exe file). Then you're going to run that file to install the program on your computer. (In this example, we'll download the CorporateTime software used with GUCalendar.)
  1. When you Click on the link, you will be asked where you want to save the file. Your desktop is a good place.
  1. Beside Save in, Click on the little down arrow. This will bring up a list of choices. Click on Desktop.
  1. Then Click on the Save button.

  1. If you're running any applications, close them.
  1. Find the setupex.exe file on your desktop (or wherever you just saved it).
  1. Double Click on it. In most cases, an installation program (wizard) will start up and guide you through installing the software.
