HOW TO USE UNIX: MANUAL PASSWORD CHANGES

You should immediately change your password if you ever have reason to believe it is compromised.

  1. Log in to GUSUN.
  1. At the GUSUN% prompt, type passwd  Then press the Enter key on your keyboard.
  1. You should see the following prompt:
    Change your Password
    Enter Login Password:
    
  1. Type your current GUSUN password. Then press the Enter key

      Note: Do not enter a new password. The system is asking for the password with which you just logged in.

    1. You will now be prompted to
      Enter New Password:

      Type a new password. Then press the Enter key on your keyboard.

      Note: Your new password must be between 6 and 8 characters long and have at least 2 letters and at least 1 non-letter character such as a number or punctuation mark. Additionally, your new password must vary at least 3 characters from your previous password. For more information on good password techniques, review the Georgetown Password Policies

    1. The system will now prompt you to:
      Re-enter new password:

      Re-type the same new password. Then press the Enter key on your keyboard. The system will confirm that it was typed properly the first time.

      Your password should now be successfully changed and you should see the command prompt.
