HOW TO USE UNIX: FORCED PASSWORD CHANGESFor security reasons, passwords on UNIX machines must be changed periodically. GUSUN users must change their passwords at least once every 90 days. Passwords must also be changed the first time you log in after you request a password reset. Follow these steps if the system prompts you to change your password.
Change your Password Enter Login Password:
Note: Do not enter a new password. The system is asking for the password with which you just logged in.
Enter New Password: Type a new password. Then press the Enter key on your keyboard. Note: Your new password must be between 6 and 8 characters long and have at least 2 letters and at least 1 non-letter character such as a number or punctuation mark. Additionally, your new password must vary at least 3 characters from your previous password. For more information on good password techniques, review the Georgetown Password Policies.
Re-enter new password: Re-type the same new password. Then press the Enter key on your keyboard. The system will confirm that it was typed properly the first time. Your password should now be successfully changed and you should see the command prompt. |
