HOW TO USE UNIX
Unix is a multi-user computer operating system that runs on several Georgetown machines including GUSUN. The UIS Help Desk can provide help with simple, commonly-used Unix commands. If you use Unix heavily (or would like to do so), contact the Advanced Research Computing group for assistance. To learn more about Unix, visit the Unix system home page.
Connecting to Unix
Secure Shell (SSH) provides encrypted logins and file transfers, and is a much more secure alternative to Telnet and FTP. UIS strongly encourages using SSH to connect to GUSUN, Research, Epsilon3, and other Unix systems.

The AITS Guide to Unix (pdf file) is somewhat dated, but still contains some useful information about using Unix.
Changing Unix Passwords
For security reasons, Unix systems require you to change your password every six months. You should immediately change your password if you ever have reason to believe it is compromised.
