HOW TO USE MAC OS X 10.4: INSTALLING SOFTWARE UPDATES

  1. From the apple icon in the Finder window, select System Preferences from the File menu.

  1. Click on the Software Update icon.

The Software Update window is displayed.

  1. Make sure Update Software is highlighted.
  1. Click on the Check Now button to see if any software updates are available. The Software Update utility will show you the status as it checks for new updates.

If new updates are available, you'll see them listed in the following screen (the software updates for you may differ from those displayed below):

To see more information about an update, just click on that update to highlight it. An explanation of that update will be displayed below the list of updates.

  1. If you don't want to install any updates, just click on the box next to that update so that the check mark is no longer displayed. If you don't want to install any updates at this time, click on the Quit button.

Note: If you don't install updates now, you'll still be able to install them again at another time. UIS recommends, however, that you install immediately any OS, system, and other critical updates.

  1. Click on the Install button to install the updates. The Software Update utility then downloads and installs each update.

  1. Once the utility installs the updates, click on the Restart button to quit your applications and restart your computer.
