Performing an Unscheduled LiveUpdate

    These instructions are for people who are using Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000, or Windows XP. If your computer has a different operating system, go to Anti-virus Tools. If you're not sure which operating system you use, go to Checking Your Operating System

 

UIS offers Symantec AntiVirus free of charge to all Georgetown University students, faculty, and staff for use on home and office computers.

 

If you receive an e-mail warning from UIS that a new virus has emerged, you don't have to wait for your scheduled LiveUpdate to bring your anti-virus protection up to date. You can use Symantec AntiVirus 9.0.1 to run LiveUpdate any time you wish.

 

  1. Save all unsaved documents and exit all programs running on your computer. You might be prompted to restart your computer when LiveUpdate is finished.

  2. If you have not already done so, open Symantec AntiVirus.

 
  1. Click the LiveUpdate button.

 

  1. The LiveUpdate window will open. Click the Next button.
 
  1. Stand by while Symantec AntiVirus searches for updates.
 
 
  1. When the LiveUpdate is done, click the Finish button.

 

  1. Stand by while Symantec AntiVirus installs updates. You might be prompted to restart your computer.
 
  1. Click Exit to close Symantec AntiVirus.
