INSTALLING SYMANTEC ANTIVIRUS 9.0 FOR WINDOWS PC: Install the Windows XP Patch

  Uninstall old software
  Install from download
              OR
  Install from CD
  Install WinXP patch

Install WindowsXP Patch for Symantec AntiVirus 9.0

    These instructions are for people who are using Windows 98, Windows 2000, or Windows XP. If your computer has a different operating system, go to the Software page and use the documentation for your operating system.

 

UIS offers Symantec AntiVirus free of charge to all Georgetown University students, faculty, and staff for use on home and office computers.

 

Windows XP users installing Symantec AntiVirus 9 also need to install a special software patch. (If you are not a Windows XP user, go to SETTING UP SYMANTEC ANTIVIRUS 9.0 FOR WINDOWS PC: Scheduling Automatic Virus Scans.)

 

  1. Double-click the Symantec_AntiVirus_9_for_
    Georgetown_University.exe
    installer that you saved on your desktop.


 

  1. The Symantec AntiVirus 9 Installer will open. Click Install WindowsXP Patch for Symantec AntiVirus 9.

     

  2. The Symantec AntiVirus Patch InstallShield Wizard will open. Click the Update button to begin.

     

  3. Wait while the patch installs on your computer. Installation might take a few moments.

     

  4. After the patch is finished installing, click the Finish button.

     

  5. Rebooting yor computer will complete your installation of Symantec AntiVirus. Click the Yes button to reboot.

     

  6. Go to the next step: SETTING UP SYMANTEC ANTIVIRUS 9.0 FOR WINDOWS PC: Scheduling Automatic Virus Scans.
