Click on the best description of your situation:

File System Realtime Protection detected the file
(an alert popped up while you were working)

The infected file was detected during a virus scan

The infected file was detected when you first installed Norton AntiVirus 7.6

File System Realtime Protection detected the infected file:

Because you had Realtime Protection running, Norton AntiVirus 7.6 has stopped your computer from becoming infected.

  1. If possible, notify the person who passed the infected file on to you.  They are probably unaware that they have an infected file and are spreading it.

  2. If Norton AntiVirus 7.6 reports that the file was cleaned, it means that the file is safe to use.

  3. If Norton AntiVirus 7.6 reports that the file was quarantined, it means that that the virus could not be removed from the file.  Norton AntiVirus has moved the file to a protected folder so that it cannot be opened or run.  See Managing Quarantined Files for further instructions.
