Performing an Unscheduled Virus Scan
These instructions are for people who are using Windows 95 B or Windows 95 C. If your computer has a different operating system, go to Anti-virus Tools. If you're not sure which operating system you use, go to Checking Your Operating System
If you suspect that your computer has been infected with a virus, you don't have to wait until your scheduled weekly virus scan to find out. You can use Norton AntiVirus 7.6 to scan for viruses any time you wish.
- Scan floppy disks or Zip disks after you move them from one computer to another and before you open any of the files saved on them.
- Scan downloaded e-mail attachments and any other files downloaded from the Internet before you open them.
|
- If you have not already done so, open Norton AntiVirus 7.6.
- Click the Scan folder in the left side of the window.

Now decide which type of disk or drive you want to scan:
Scanning a floppy disk or a Zip disk
Scanning a hard drive or network drive
To scan a floppy disk or Zip disk:
- Click on Scan a Floppy Disk
- The Scan a Floppy Disk option will appear. To scan an entire removable disk, Click in the little box next to its name (a checkmark will appear in the box).
- If you want to scan only a few specific files or folders on the removable disk, click the plus sign next to the removable disk's name. This will reveal the disk's contents. Click in the box next to each folder or file you want to scan (a check mark will appear in each box).
- Click the Scan button.

- Stand by while your removable disk is scanned for viruses. It should only take 1 - 5 minutes. If any viruses are found, Symantec AntiVirus will remove them automatically. Once the scan is completed, close the window.
