Uninstall Old Anti-virus Software

    These instructions are for people who are using Windows 95 B or Windows 95 C. If your computer has a different operating system, go to Anti-virus Tools. If you're not sure which operating system you use, go to Checking Your Operating System

Before you install Norton AntiVirus 7.6 on your computer, you may need to uninstall the anti-virus software you are using now.

Click on the best description of your situation:

I am using a version of Norton AntiVirus Stand-alone.

I am using a version of Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition.

If you are using a version of Norton AntiVirus Stand-alone:

Before you begin, close any documents and exit any programs that are open on your computer.

 
  1. Click the Start button. (This will bring up a menu.) Click Programs. (This will bring up another menu.) Click Norton AntiVirus. (This will bring up another menu.) Click Uninstall Norton AntiVirus.
Click Start, then Norton AntiVirus, then Uninstall Norton AntiVirus.
 
  1. The Norton AntiVirus Application Maintenance window will open. Click the Remove button.
Click Remove.
 
  1. A window will open that says, "This will remove Norton AntiVirus 2002 from your machine. Are you sure you want to continue?" Click the Next button.
Click Next.
 
  1. Stand by while Norton AntiVirus uninstalls from your computer. It should take 1 - 5 minutes.
Stand by while Norton AntiVirus uninstalls.
 
  1. You may see a window that says, "There are files in Quarantine. Would you like to delete the quarantined files?" Click Yes if the infected files stored in quarantine can be replaced. Click No if you would like to try recovering the files with Norton AntiVirus 7.6.
Stand by while Norton AntiVirus uninstalls.
 
  1. A new window will pop up to notify you when the uninstall process is complete. Click the Finish button.
Click Finish.
 
  1. You will be prompted to reboot your computer to complete the uninstallation process. To reboot, click the Yes button.
 

After you reboot and log back in to your computer, proceed
to the next step and Install Norton AntiVirus 7.6.

 

 

If you are using a version of Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition:

You can simply install Norton AntiVirus 7.6 to updgrade your anti-virus software. You do not need to uninstall your anti-virus program.
