Managing Quarantined Files

    These instructions are for people who are using Windows 95 B or Windows 95 C. If your computer has a different operating system, go to Anti-virus Tools. If you're not sure which operating system you use, go to Checking Your Operating System

When Symantec AntiVirus finds a virus-infected file, it moves the file into "quarantine" so it can't infect the rest of your computer. Dealing with quarantined files depends on the importance of the file.

The quarantined file is isn't important, or can be replaced

The quarantined file is important and irreplaceable

 

If the file isn't important, or if it can be replaced, you should delete it right away

1. Double-click on the gold shield icon that is located on the toolbar at the bottom of your screen.  This will bring up a menu.

2. Click View, then Click Quarantine.  This will bring up a window containing all quarantined files.

3. Right-click on the infected file; this will bring up a menu.  Click Delete Permanently, then Click Start Delete.  This will permanently delete the file.

 

 

If the file is important and irreplaceable

To be honest, you are probably out of luck.  Your best hope is to leave the infected file in quarantine and replace it with an older version of the file from your backup. It is possible that a subsequent update of AntiVirus will provide a way to clean the file.  The next time LiveUpdate is run, answer yes when AntiVirus asks if you want to try to recover quarantined files.
