Installing NAV 9.0: From the UIS Website

Note: Norton AntiVirus (NAV) 9.0 will only work on Mac OS 10.0 or later. If you are using Mac OS 9.2 (or earlier), you should install NAV 7.0.

To install Norton AntiVirus (NAV) on OS 10.0 or higher, you will need to log into your computer using an administrative account.

You can download NAV from the UIS website, or you can install it from a CD. If you are connecting using a dial-up connection (GUExpress), you should get the CD. You can get the CD from Hoya Computing.

If you are installing NAV on OS 10.3, you may get some errors from the LiveUpdate Scheduler. If you are using OS 10.3, you may have to delete any scheduled LiveUpdates. This means you must run LiveUpdate manually every day.

Step I: Uninstalling NAV 8.0

If NAV 8 is on your computer, you must manually uninstall it before installing NAV 9.

  1. Click on Go, then click on Applications.
 
  1. Click on the Norton Solutions folder and drag it to the Trash.
 
 

Step II: Downloading and Installing NAV 9.0

  1. When you click on the download the file! link, a file will download to your computer and unzip itself automatically.

Note: If you are using Mozilla, click on Open using Stuffit Expander, then click on the OK button.
 
  1. Double click on the Norton AntiVirus 9.0 icon that appears on your desktop.
  1. Double click on Install for OS X.
  1. Double click on Norton AntiVirus Installer.
  1. You'll be asked to authenticate yourself.
 
  1. Beside Password or phrase, type the password that you use when logging into the computer.
 
  1. Then click on the OK button.
  1. A Welcome panel will open. Click on the Continue button.
  1. This will bring up the Read Me file; read the parts that interest you, then click on the Continue button.
  1. This will bring up the NAV license agreement. Read the license, then click on the Continue button. When prompted, click on the Agree button.
  1. When the Select a Destination panel appears, click on the icon for your drive, then click on the Continue button.
  1. Click on the Install button.
  1. You'll be warned that your computer will restart. Make sure nothing important is running, then click on the Continue Installation button.
  1. When the LiveUpdate panel comes up, click on the Yes button. (It is extremely important to keep your antivirus software up to date.)
  1. When LiveUpdate has finished, click on the Restart button.
