Anti-virus Software & Protecting Your ComputerANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE Antivirus software manufactured by the Symantec corporation (Symantec AntiVirus and Norton AntiVirus) is provided free of charge to all Georgetown University students, faculty, and staff. We encourage every person at the University to install AntiVirus on their work and home computers. Different operating systems use different versions of AntiVirus. PROTECTING YOUR COMPUTER Protecting your computer from information security threats goes beyond installing antivirus software. Setting up your computer to receive automatic security updates, using strong passwords, and exercising caution with e-mail attachments are a few of the things you can do to prevent infection.

BLASTER AND WELCHIA REMOVAL INSTRUCTIONS Blaster and Welchia, computer worms that transmit themselves over network connections, infect Windows XP and Windows 2000 PCs that have not been kept up to date with a certain security patch. If your computer has been infected with one of these worms, however, installing the patch will not remove the worm from your computer.
