UIS Tip of the Week: Enable Tabbed Browsing in Safari
Oh, the frustration of surfing the Web, when you find the perfect Web site for that piece of research, only to mistakenly close the browser window before bookmarking because you thought it was an evil pop-up.
The other day, while using Safari, I found myself trying furiously to close irrelevant, cluttery windows, and then, OOOPS!, of course closing the window I really needed.
I found that there must be a feature in Safari that supported tabbed browsing; you know, where you need only one browser window open, with a "tab" for each browser window. And, to my surprise, there IS such a feature! I, like most users, accept the default settings unequivocally until forced to find those hidden functions.
So, here's what you do to set up your Safari browser to use tabbed windows:
- Open a Safari Web browser window by clicking on the Safari icon.

- Select Preferences from the Safari menu.

- Click on the Tabs button.
- Select Enable Tabbed Browsing. Optionally, you can choose Select new tabs as they are created and Always show tab bar.

- Press Command key + T, or select New Tab from the File menu, to open a new Safari tab window.
