What's New? Wireless Networking, Labs Upgraded, and More

Wireless Networking Available; Contest Announced
Wireless networking is now available on several areas of Georgetown University's main and medical campuses. To learn about the advantages of wireless networking, please see the article Wireless Networking at Georgetown.

UIS is holding a contest to name our wireless network. You could win your choice of a Palm m515 PDA, or an iPod MP3 player. Enter online at http://www.georgetown.edu/uis/wireless/wireless.contest.html.

Computer Labs Upgraded
All PCs in classrooms and UIS computer labs have been upgraded to run the Windows XP operating system.

Online Media Adapter Sign Out Form
Students who live in Village A, Village B, Nevils, New South or Harbin will need a media adapter set to connect to the Internet. Go to https://data.georgetown.edu/uis/resnet/ma/, log in with your NetID and NetID password, fill out the online form, get your confirmation number, then bring the confirmation number and your GOCard to the UIS Service Desk on the ground floor of St. Mary's to get your adapter.

Online Account Request Form
You can now request Novell network, Peoplesoft student admissions, and RESEARCH UNIX accounts online, without filling out paper forms. Go to https://data.georgetown.edu/uis/accounts/novellps/ and log in with your NetID and NetID password.

Telephone and Voice Mail Instructions
Visit http://www.georgetown.edu/uis/help/menu.telecom.html for updated telephone and voice mail instructions for faculty, staff, and students living on campus.

Cable Television in Dorms
Students living on campus can learn all about cable television services at http://www.georgetown.edu/uis/video/. Cable is free until September 15, so be sure to sign up before then to avoid an interruption in service.

GOCard Transition Complete
Effective July 1, 2002 all University ID cards are made by the GOCard Office in the Leavey Center Clock Tower. The GOCard Office wishes to thank the staff of the ID Section of the Department of Public Safety for their dedicated service over the past quarter century. Their cooperation greatly simplified the transition of this function to the GOCard Office. The GOCard Office may be reached at (202) 687-2700 or gocard@georgetown.edu.
