Demo Models in Hoya Computing

Nora Mexia

While Hoya Computing has always worked with vendors to secure educational discounts for computer systems, our new office in St. Mary's allows us to demonstrate these systems for the first time. These demo models of complete Apple and Dell computer systems (also known as bundles) have been created especially for the Georgetown University community 1 and are available for both laptop computers and desktop computers. Bundles include a keyboard, a mouse, operating system software, office software, a three-year warranty, and a monitor for the desktop systems. Stop by Hoya Computing in G-36 St. Mary's during regular office hours, from 9:30 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. Monday through Friday. You can view the demo computers at your leisure or ask one of our staffers for a demonstration.

If you are affiliated with Computer Science, Chemistry, or another department using UNIX, stop by to see the new Mac operating system, OS X. OS X allows users to switch easily from a UNIX terminal to an improved version of the Mac OS graphical interface. Also, improved support for the POSIX API enables you to easily port a UNIX-based application to OS X.

All of the demo models in Hoya Computing are available to purchase at educational discount through Hoya Computing's online stores. Go to http://www.georgetown.edu/uis/hoya/computers.html for links to the Online Apple Store and the Premier Dell online store.

UIS would like to thank Dell Computer for their generous donations of computer systems for our student computing lab, a laptop cart for our training room, and plasma screens for our ground floor entrance. Dell's support has helped make our vision for the St. Mary's Technical Center a reality.

  1. MSB students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to use IBM systems from Computerware. See http://www.georgetown.edu/uis/hoya/personalpurch.html.

Nora Mexia is distribution services coordinator for Hoya Computing.
