Campus Computing Upgrades and Enhancements

Summer has officially drawn to a close as all of Georgetown prepares for the challenges of a new academic year. Students arriving on campus refreshed after three months away will find the UIS student computer labs refreshed as well. Also new is a convenient option for printing in campus residences.

Computer Labs

UIS furnishes eight student computer labs for general academic computing. Two, the St. Mary's Hall Twenty-four Hour Lab and ICC 100, are open to the entire student population. Five are housed in residence halls—Harbin Hall, LXR, New South, Village C East, and Village C West—for the exclusive use of each hall's residents. ICC 218 is reserved solely for graduate students. Computers are also located in common areas in Copley Hall, and Internet kiosks can be found in ICC and the Leavey Center.  In the new Southwest Quadrangle, several computers have been installed in study rooms, and AirHoya wireless network access will be installed by the end of September.

Over the summer, all three-year-old lab computers and printers were replaced with new equipment. Some computers in LXR and Village C West and all computers in ICC 100 have been replaced with new OS X eMacs. All student computers provided by UIS are now either Windows XP Professional or Mac OS X and feature the latest Internet Explorer and Mozilla Web browsers.

Printing From Your Room

Two print stations, connected to the campus's Pharos printing system, have been installed in the Southwest Quad.  Print stations can also be found in Copley Hall, Harbin Hall, LXR, New South, Village C East, and Village C West.

Students living on campus who have Windows 2000 or XP computers in their rooms can now print directly from their computers to the print stations in their buildings.  Instructions for connecting your computer to the print station are included on a free CD available from the UIS Service Desk in G-39 St. Mary’s Hall.
