Tech News for Students
Preventing Virus Infection
On May 2, the Sasser worm infected hundreds of Georgetown students' computers. Sasser spread by expoloiting a security flaw in Windows 2000 and Windows XP computers that did not have the latest Windows security patch installed.
Most of the viruses that hit Georgetown invade the university network from student computers. Students can protect themselves by following the guidelines on the How to Protect Your Computer Web page. The page contains illustrated instructions for configuring Windows to install security patches automatically, for installing Symantec AntiVirus, and more. Assistance with the instructions is offered by the UIS Help Desk.

Summer Computer Security for Students
