Ninth Annual Teaching, Learning, and Technology Summer Institute (TLTSI)
Learn About Teaching and Study Research

Mindy McWilliams

The Center for New Designs in Learning and Scholarship (CNDLS), in partnership with the University Libraries, UIS, the Center for Social Justice and others, will be hosting the Ninth Annual TLTSI during the week between graduation and Memorial Day. Running from Monday, May 19 to Friday, May 23, the TLTSI offers an array of week-long seminars and short afternoon workshops on topics ranging from diversity in teaching to developing an interactive course website including video and audio. This year we are delighted to have a new thematic seminar, Community-Based Research, led by Deanna Cooke of the Center for Social Justice.

Our plenary lunch speaker on Wednesday, May 21, will be Christopher Dede from Harvard's Graduate School of Education. Chris is a leader in the field of educational technology, interactive media, and virtual communities of practice. He will speak to Georgetown's teaching and learning community about "How Virtual Interactions Deepen Learning for Real Students".

All Georgetown faculty, staff, and graduate students are invited to attend this week of professional development, provided free of charge. Participants must apply to the thematic seminars, and must register for afternoon workshops because space is limited. Faculty participating in the thematic seminars are eligible to apply for up to $1,700 in follow-up technology innovation grants. These grants are intended to enable faculty to develop full-scale projects for integrating technology into their teaching based upon the knowledge and skills gained through the TLTSI seminars. Graduate students who attend an entire thematic seminar will receive a $300 stipend and may apply with two faculty members for a technology grant.

More information and applications can be found on our TLTSI Web site, or by calling CNDLS at 687-0625.

Mindy McWilliams is a TLTSI organizer and project manager for CNDLS.
