Gelardin New Media Center
Beth Marhanka
The Gelardin New Media Center, a gift from Jacques P. Gelardin (B'69), is a newly renovated and expanded space on the first floor of Lauinger Library. Through its partnership with the Center for New Designs in Learning and Scholarship (CNDLS), the Gelardin Center assists faculty in exploring new technologies and techniques for teaching. We provide Georgetown's faculty, staff, and students with:
- An audio and video production studio.
- Seven audio and video editing rooms.
- Workshops and individualized help from our staff of multimedia specialists.
- Software and services for computing and multimedia development.
- Audiovisual and digital materials.
- A digital still camera and several camcorders for loan.
- Computer workstations with office applications, Web applications, and access to all online Lauinger Library resources.
The Gelardin Center's newly aquired media server makes audio and video files available to all 55 computer workstations simultaneously. In the past, only one student at a time could watch a film or listen to an assigned piece of music. Now more than a dozen students in Professor Jose Bowen's class can listen to a single piece of music at the same time, all at different workstations.
